Kate Middleton’s polite reminder from Camilla after chatting away at royal event

Kate Middleton was spotted deep in conversation at the Order of the Garter ceremony in Windsor in 2019 – and if it wasn’t for Camilla’s reminder, she might have missed an important part of the event. The royal calendar is often made up of events that take place nearly every single year without fail.

And one of those is happening on Monday – Garter Day at Windsor Castle, which sees some royals take part in a procession wearing regal velvet robes and plumed hats. For the last two years, it has fallen victim to Covid restrictions, meaning the last time the event was held was in 2019. And that was a very special year that year as, alongside British royals, the King and Queen of both the Netherlands and Spain also attended.

Watching the ceremony were the Duchesses of Cornwall and Cambridge alongside Sophie Wessex, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands and Queen Letizia of Spain. And it seems that Kate almost got so lost in conversation with Queen Maxima, they almost missed an important part of the procession. Luckily Camilla was on hand to tap Maxima on the arm and remind the ladies to face forwards while the parade passed – and Sophie was also seen quickly taking her place in the lineup next to Letizia.

The Order of the Garter was founded by Edward III in 1348 recognising contributions to public service. Members of the Order include the Queen, several senior royals and 24 other Knights or Ladies, who are personally chosen by the monarch for recognition of their work.
Some foreign monarchs are also in the order but are known as ‘Stranger’ Knights. These include King Felipe of Spain and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.

During Monday’s service, Camilla will be made a Royal Lady of the Garter, while former Prime Minister Tony Blair will be made a Knight of the Garter and Baroness Amos a Lady of the Garter. Other royals who are in the Order include Prince Charles, Prince William, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. A statement from Buckingham Palace regarding Monday’s event said: “A Service for the Most Noble Order of the Garter will be held in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, on Monday 13th June 2022.

“Members of the Royal Family will walk in procession to the Chapel, and after the Service, will depart by carriages for their return journey to the Castle. “During the Service, The Duchess of Cornwall will be installed as a Royal Lady of the Order of the Garter. A Lady Companion, the Baroness Amos, and a Knight Companion, Sir Anthony Blair, will also be installed.”
